In May 2023 we published a series of Policy Briefings which aim to show our learning from 10 years supporting care leavers in the criminal justice system. Since we started this work in 2010 the outlook for care leavers in the CJS has improved as policy and practice have improved. Indeed, there have been more positive changes since we published these briefings. However more still needs to be done to reduce the number of children in care and care leavers entering the CJS, to improve the support to care leavers in prison and to better support care leavers in the community through probation.
