Earlier in October this year the Department of Education produced its annual statistics on Looked After Children in England. It contains a wealth of information about young people in care and leaving care and is collated from information provided by local authorities. The most interesting information for the Care Leavers Association relates to the figures for young people now aged 19 who were in care when they were 16. In 2010 of the 6,200 young people only 6% were in higher educaiton and only 25% were in training or employment. There is still much to do to support young people leaving care to enable them to thrive in the world. Go no News to read more of the key points from the statistics.
