The Care Leavers Association is working in a partnership led by award winning charity PhotoVoice exploring the experiences of people who have gone through the care system. In partnership with 3 charities, the project will use photography to explore the experiences of adults who have left care (25+). Cameras will be provided, and no photographic experience is necessary – the insights shared through the 8 weekly workshops will help PhotoVoice develop new toolkits designed to improve the care system and support those currently in care.
Drawing on PhotoVoice’s extensive experience in participatory photography and participatory-led engagement, participants will be trained in digital photography and media, storytelling and self-advocacy. They will be supported to use these skills to contribute to the design and development of a resources, advocacy materials and training activities with professionals in the sector to support other young people transitioning from care to independent living. The first series of workshops will start on April 16th and be held every Tuesday for 8 weeks. Times and venues will be confirmed depending on the participants. However workshops will probably be in Manchester or London depending on who wishes to attend.
If you are 25-30 yrs old and would like to become a participant on the project, please contact info@careleavers.com
Participants should be able to commit to the first series of workshops dates as specified, and ideally, any workshops which follow this phase. All workshop travel will be refunded.
