Ireland and Germany Call Upon Catholic Church to Hold Inquiries into Child Sex Abuse PDF Print E-mail

The Catholic Church is being called upon to hold inquiries to fully disclose the details and extent of sexual abuse by priests.

With allegations surfacing in Europe since the start of the year, the German chancellor, Angela Merkel, believes that the scandal of abuse in the country's churches and schools could only be resolved through a full inquiry into all cases.

The Catholic Church in Ireland has been the subject of criticism in two reports detailing endemic abuse throughout its institutions. Cardinal Sean Brady, admitted attending meetings where two children were forced to sign vows of silence over complaints made against Father Brendan Smyth. The Cardinal used his St. Patrick's day sermon to apologise for his role in the cover up of child abuse.

The Archbishop of Dublin believes that the only way to fully restore public confidence in the church is to hold a national inquiry into historic claims.

Updated CLA Access to Records Guide PDF Print E-mail

The CLA recently launched the updated version of our Access to Records Guide. You can download a copy here: Access to Records Guide 2009

The aim of this guide is to help care leavers who want to gain access to their files from their time in care.

The guide explains the law that allows care leavers to do this. It also explains: what information care leavers can have access to and what they can not access; how to make a request; some of the problems that might occur and what to do if a request is not responded to properly.

We hope the guide will help more care leavers to successfully access their files.

You can provide feedback about the new version of the guide by commenting on our Blog or voting in the current Poll.
