Care Leavers' Association

An ever growing union of care leavers

Cycle Challenge Update PDF Print E-mail

After 2 days of cycling against the wind, we've made it through Essex to Suffolk. Yesterday was a killer: about 50 miles from Writtle to Ipswich, with a couple of big hills along the way. Today we are heading to Halesworth and travelling onto Norwich tomorrow.

We are about halfway there at the moment.

The weather is lovely and sunny but there is a strong head wind, which means we have to put some extra effort in.

Thank you to everyone who has sponsored us so far. You have helped us to raise £1,155.

If you haven't already, please sponsor us now by visiting our Justgiving page:

All the money we raise will go to the CLA to support our work to provide services to care leavers and to campaign for a better deal for care leavers and young people in care now.

CLA Cycle Challenge 2010 PDF Print E-mail

On April 11 2010, Victoria, Will and Zachari will be hitting the pedals and riding from London to Norwich to raise money for the Care Leavers' Association (CLA).

cyclerideThis is our second CLA Cycle Challenge to raise money for the organisation. We had planned to do this event in 2009 and we had to delay it due to personal circumstances, but we are now back on track and ready to go.

In 2008 we tackled the North West and this year we'll be riding from central London around the East Anglian coast to Norwich. Along the way we'll pass through Chelmsford, Ipswich and Colchester. We plan to try to meet up with care leavers in the towns that we stop at.

Thanks to everyone who has sponsored us so far. You have helped us to raise £295. Our target is to raise £1,000. If you haven't already, please sponsor us now by visiting our Justgiving page:

Bradford Keep In Touch Event PDF Print E-mail

On Wednesday 7th April, we will be holding a Keep In Touch event in Bradford.

This is a really informal gathering, which is open to all care leavers. It is a chance to meet up with others who grew up in care and also to find out more about the Care Leavers' Association and the work that we do.

Jim Goddard, a member of the CLA Executive Committee will be running the event. Please feel free to bring a partner or a friend along with you, if you feel more comfortable that way. Otherwise it will be a meeting only for care leavers, run by care leavers.

Venue: The Hilton Hotel, Bradford. Time: 7.30 p.m. to 9/9.30. If you arrive early we'll be having a coffee in the bar/cafe area so come and join us. If you arrive later we'll be in the Lintondale Room on the sixth floor (just ask at Reception for directions). Free tea and coffee provided. The Hilton Hotel is just two minutes walk from Bradford Interchange rail and bus station. Just leave the station, head downhill past 'The Queen' pub and turn left on the corner and you'll see the entrance (the back of City Hall is opposite; look for the massive clock tower).
