Jim Goddard Runs to Raise Funds for Jersey Care Leavers |

In 2006, Jim ran a marathon to raise money for the Care Leavers' Association. This year, he is running another marathon, this time to raise funds for our sister organisation, The Jersey Care Leavers' Association (JCLA).
Many people will be well aware of the child abuse scandal that erupted on Jersey early in 2008. The issue has since dropped from the media. However, everyone with knowledge of the issues agrees that there was widespread abuse of children in care on Jersey in past decades. The JCLA was set up to represent the victims of past abuse on the island, along with others who grew up in care there, and to offer support.

West Sussex County Council are awarded CLEARmark. |

West Sussex County Council has become the second local authority to achieve CLEARmark status.
CLEARmark is the CLA quality mark awarded to local authorities and voluntary agencies that have shown the CLA that they maintain good practice in helping care leavers access their childhood care records.

The Relationship Between the Jersey Care Leavers’ Association and the Care Leavers’ Association in the UK
This brief account sets out what we have done on Jersey these past two years. The main members of the Care Leavers’ Association (CLA) who have been involved in trying to provide support to care leavers on Jersey have been Will McMahon, our Chair, and Jim Goddard, our Secretary.

Apology for Abuse to Adults and Children In Care and Other "e" petition |

The CLA encourages people to sign an e-petition calling on the government to apologise to all people who were abused whilst in care. The petition has been established by CLA member Dr Peter McParlin. The CLA will also be encouraging other organisations to join together in the campaign to persuade the government to offer an offical apology. Follow the link to sign the petition.
The CLA is also encouraging people to sign another e petion calling on the government to re-establish the National Centre for Excellence in Residnetial Child Care. |
