Welcome to the Care Leavers' Association website.
Have a look around. If you are a care leaver, why not join us? We also welcome anyone else who agrees with our goals. If you'd like to meet up with people that you were in care with then why not join CareleaversReunited as well? Feel free to tell us your ideas, come to our meetings or just keep coming back here from time to time.
At the moment our main priorities are: our campaign on Access to Records and supporting the Jersey Care Leavers' Association (JCLA) in their campaign for justice, as well as coordinating the UK-side of the campaign. However, we cover a range of issues that are relevant to care leavers. Just explore the sections of our website to find out more.
We are also a membership organisation and open to anyone, over the age of 18, who spent all or part of their childhood in care. Find out more through the 'Get Involved' pages.

On April 11 2010, Victoria, Will and Zachari will be hitting the pedals and riding from London to Norwich to raise money for the Care Leavers' Association (CLA).
This is our second CLA Cycle Challenge to raise money for the organisation. We had planned to do this event in 2009 and we had to delay it due to personal circumstances, but we are now back on track and ready to go.
In 2008 we tackled the North West and this year we'll be riding from central London around the East Anglian coast to Norwich. Along the way we'll pass through Chelmsford, Ipswich and Colchester. We plan to try to meet up with care leavers in the towns that we stop at.
Thanks to everyone who has sponsored us so far. You have helped us to raise £295. Our target is to raise £1,000. If you haven't already, please sponsor us now by visiting our Justgiving page:
www.justgiving.com/clacycle.
If you know of anyone who might want to sponsor us, please pass on the link to our page.
All the money we raise will go to the CLA to support our work to provide services to care leavers and to campaign for a better deal for care leavers and young people in care now. |

CLA New Project for Young Care Leavers’ from Black and Minority Ethnic Backgrounds |
|
|
|
|
The CLA has received funding this year to run a project with young people in care and young care leavers from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds. The project will include an event in central Manchester on 2 June 2010, which will allow young people to speak about the issues that are important to them and express their opinions about the changes they think should be made. Following the event, there will be a report of the young people’s views. We also hope to get a group of young people together to take part in 3-4 follow-up sessions to take forward issues raised by young people during the day.

On Wednesday 7th April, we will be holding a Keep In Touch event in Leeds.
This is a really informal gathering, which is open to all care leavers. It is a chance to meet up with others who grew up in care and also to find out more about the Care Leavers' Association and the work that we do.
Jim Goddard, a member of the CLA Executive Committee will be running the event. Please feel free to bring a partner or a friend along with you, if you feel more comfortable that way.
Venue: To be confirmed.
